Holding Board Meetings During a Pandemic

We recognize these last two weeks have been challenging to build a complete plan for distance learning in the event that circumstances require shelter-in-place in your community or across the state. While you have been working with teachers and staff to meet the diverse needs of the community, you might have struggled to keep the board informed through more than email. If you missed it last week, we have a free sample policy on our website to give the board a way to contribute to your distance learning plans through policy. We recognize that charter schools and districts vary widely and we continue to offer free assistance to modify that policy to meet the vision of your board and operation needs of your school community.

Having the policy and plans aren’t enough; we still need to hold public meetings to accomplish the business of the board during this crisis. Thankfully, the Open Meeting Law was structured to accommodate a health pandemic or other declared emergency. What’s more, we have a video walk-through available to assist you in preparing, configuring, and hosting a public meeting on Google Hangouts Meet, to continue to carry out the business of the board during a time of social distancing. The walk-through is available on our YouTube site, but if you need more assistance, please reach out and we can provide a meeting consultation at no cost or discuss hosting and facilitation support if you require more assistance.
